Sean

Sean is the joint owner of the Australian Academy of Music, which he runs alongside his wife, Linda. Sean has been playing guitar and drums since the 1980s, bringing decades of practical experience across acoustic, electric and bass guitar, as well as drums and ukulele.

His strength as a teacher lies in broad stylistic knowledge, real-world playing experience, and a deep understanding of how students progress over time. He specialises in teaching beginners and students with specific learning needs or requests, helping them build strong foundations before guiding them toward more specialised musical interests.

Sean understands that there are many reasons people choose to learn an instrument, and that students absorb new concepts in different ways. For this reason, he, along with all Academy teachers, tailors lessons to suit each individual student. Lessons are designed to be enjoyable, motivating, and focused on moving students forward on their musical journey.

Sean also runs the Academy’s Band Program, carefully matching students by skill level and musical taste and coaching them through to performance-ready confidence. His personal interests include Flamenco guitar, rock guitar and rock drumming, and his teaching approach balances student choice, guidance from parents, and appropriate theory to support confident, self-directed learning.
